Hey there, my name is Laurin Vroom and I am a registered nurse and professional freelance writer. While I am specialized in the field of obstetrics (pregnancy, labour and delivery, postpartum) and am also passionate about cardiology and teach Basic Life Support to healthcare professionals as a side job.

The goal of my company Vroom Freelance is to help you, the client or the healthcare provider, help people in your communities live happier, healthier (and longer!) lives.

Health Writing

As a health writer, I want to produce high quality material that is medically accurate (evidence-based), engaging, and easy for your readers to understand and connect with. I have varied experience as a nurse since graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing back in 2012. I’ve worked with the elderly, homeless men and street youth, pregnant mothers and physically disabled so I can relate to many different clientele.

My niche in health writing is definitely obstetrics- all things to do with pregnancy, labour and delivery, the postpartum period and breastfeeding. I have also been a competitive athlete (turned recreational, but still very active) my whole life so I can’t help but be passionate about how beneficial an active lifestyle is before, during and after pregnancy.

I’ve worked in obstetrics, on a busy urban labour and delivery unit for ten years now, taught nursing postpartum, and even traveled to rural Canada to act as a nurse/midwife in the only tiny hospital in that territory. I just finished having three children in under three years as well, allowing me to experience the patient side of obstetrics first hand. I believe this experience has better equipped me to understand the learning needs and interests of pregnant, labouring and postpartum mothers.

I did my Master’s of Education while having my three children so that I could further devote myself to teaching, as it’s something I really love to do. I believe this degree combined with my experience teaching nursing students will benefit me as I write for you. It has also given me many skills to create animated, narrated videos (educational videos), infographics, and any other visually attractive way of catching the audience’s attention and increasing their ability to remember what they saw and heard, rather than read.

Videos, charts, audio files, and infographics are the way of the future, I believe, as each generation becomes increasingly absorbed in a rapidly advancing technology. While I love to write and do research, I can also add value to the content you are creating for your clients by turning the written information into audio-visual information. If you are interesting in exploring this option further, please give me a shout!

CPR & BLS Instructor

The Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation (CHSF) is the national leader in teaching Canadians how to perform high-quality CPR. Whether you’re a professional healthcare provider working in a hospital, or community clinic, or you’re an employee at a local gym or daycare- knowing how to respond to emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis, or severe choking is vitally important.

While I hold classes listed on the CHSF website, on pre-selected days and times you can sign up for (just search my name and you’ll find my class), I am most interested in bringing the training to you. To your workplace, for a group of your employees, for you and your fellow nursing students who all need to be certified or re-certified. Finding a class near you can be difficult and annoying via the CHSF website (this has been my experience the last two times I was re-certified!) so if you have a group of people that need to be trained, please shoot me an email and with my flexible schedule we will find a time and place that works best for you.

All classes, whether initial certification or re-certification, cost 100$/person. BLS is for healthcare providers specifically (nurses, doctors, dentists, dental hygienists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, etc.) whether still a student in school or already working.

There are three levels of CPR with the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
